Ipswich Community Radio will be run entirely by women on International Women’s Day, Friday 8 March.

The programme roster from breakfast through to midnight will consist of shows by women presenters at the station as well as guests including Mayor Jane Riley and University of Suffolk Vice Chancellor Professor Helen Langton.

Music written and performed by women will be featured on all shows, including a one-off return show by Fiona Jessica Wilson, host of Get Classical with FJ and twice short listed for Female Presenter of the Year in the National Community Radio Awards.

“This is a fantastic way to celebrate the contributions of women to ICR and to audio entertainment in general,” said Izzy Lane, organiser of the Women’s Day programming at the station. “We’re still looking for more presenters and guests from the community, including girls’ and women’s’ groups.”

The day will start at 7 am with Friday Breakfast, presented as usual by Izzy Lane and Diana ben-Aaron. Other confirmed daytime shows include World Music (9 am, Nelleke van Helfteren), Blues Train Express (10 am, Jane Dawson), Homeland Radio (1 pm, Yelena Seale), Get Classical (2 pm, Fiona Jessica Wilson). Evening programming includes Rowena Miller´s Vinyl Connection (6 pm), Sadie Mac´s Soul Party (7 pm) and regular Sunday presenter Tomisha Kersey taking over at 9 pm.

Ipswich Community Radio is a volunteer-run community radio station that has been broadcasting since August 2007 under an Ofcom license. The station is a Community Interest Company. Shows cover music across a range of genres, with particular attention to local bands and the arts scene. About a quarter of the programming is talk-based, including the breakfast shows.

In addition to broadcasting, the station carries out radio training, musical support for community events, and projects with charities such as the Papworth Trust.
